ASPAR KNOWLEDGE BASE

Short answer

An on-board axle load monitoring system is ASPAR equipment for monitoring vehicle axle load. The system combines a sensor or sensors, an additional controller and a monitoring/accounting system. It is not stationary truck scales, roadway axle scales or road-based WIM infrastructure.

How the ASPAR system works at a high level

Element Role in the system
Sensor or sensors Installed on the vehicle/axle system to monitor axle load.
Additional controller Forms part of the monitoring and accounting system; records the number of weighing events.
Monitoring and accounting system Combines the sensors and controller into a configuration selected for the specific vehicle.

Depending on the configuration, the controller may provide a basis for further, potentially full, automation. This does not mean that every configuration includes full automation.

What AXLE is not

ASPAR AXLE is an on-board solution installed on the vehicle/axle system. It is not stationary truck scales, roadway scales or a weigh-in-motion system built into road infrastructure. These equipment types should not be conflated during selection.

Information needed for selection

ASPAR assesses vehicle type, axle construction, the number of monitored axles, operating conditions and the required data format. The final configuration is selected from the information for the specific vehicle.

Common questions

Does AXLE replace stationary truck scales?

No. AXLE is an on-board axle load monitoring system installed on the vehicle/axle system. Stationary and roadway scales are a different class of equipment.

What does the controller record?

In this configuration, the controller records the number of weighing events. Other functions are defined for the selected configuration in the technical brief.

Does every system include full automation?

No. Depending on configuration, the controller may provide a basis for further automation; its scope is determined separately for the specific vehicle.
